The bus will take us to our start point at Llanthony Priory. Crossing the valley from the Priory, we climb steeply up Cwm Bwchel to Bal Bach. On reaching the top we head south along the ridge, dropping into the Grwyne Fawr Valley, crossing the river and climb up to Partrishow Church, which is well worth a look around. Continuing uphill we skirt round the summit of Crug Mawr before dropping into the Grwyne Fechan Valley. Rising above the agricultural land on the western side of the valley, we climb up Table Mountain (Crug Hywel), the site of an ancient settlement overlooking our goal for the day, Crickhowell.
