The highlight of this walk is the largely unexplored top of Mynydd Llangatwg with panoramic views of the Usk Valley below and the Black Mountains to the north.
Starting at CRIC, we cross the canal to join the Usk Valley Walk for a few miles heading west. Then a short climb brings us out onto open moor and a stretch of easy walking to reach the foot of the Llangattock escarpment. We climb the escarpment to head east. There are no footpaths on the plateau and we will be “off piste” for about 3 miles, with sometimes challenging conditions underfoot. You are unlikely to see any other walkers up here. Eventually we leave the plateau to drop down the escarpment to return to Crickhowell via Llangattock village.
