The Chartists lobbied for political reform in the 1830s and South Wales was one of the centres of the movement. A walk up to the Chartists' Cave and then along the north side of Llangynidr Mountain. This is followed by a descent to the River Usk and, water levels permitting, returning to the car park along a very scenic stretch of the river via Llangynidr Bridge.
DIRECTIONS TO START
Allow 30 mins from CRiC. From the front of CRiC take A40 towards Brecon and turn left opposite the Shell petrol station. Drive over Crickhowell’s river bridge and turn right following this road for 4 miles. As you enter Llangynidr, you will pass signs on the left for the Red Lion and then a bus shelter, also on the left. Turn immediately left into the car park which is opposite the village hall. No charge.
