Starting in Aberedw the walk follows the quiet road towards Pentre-moel. After crossing the River Edw, we will take a brief diversion onto a trail through the forest to discover Llywelyn’s Cave, where Llywelyn ap Gruffydd spent his final night as the last sovereign Prince of Wales before going head to head with Edward I at Battle of Orewin Bridge in 1282.
Returning to the road we continue to climb onto the ridge to Llandeilo Hill. The gentle ridge walk follows well-marked paths crossing hills covered in heather and pockmarked by numerous pools and ponds. Close to the top of Llandeilo Hill is Twm Tobacco's Grave, variously considered a much-loved pedlar or alternatively a hanged felon, depending on who's telling the tale. Weather permitting, there are great views southwards to the Brecon Beacons and south-east to the Black Mountains.
We continue along the ridge and then descend to cross the river Edw at Llandedw before climbing up a valley and onto the ridge of Aberedw Hill. The trail crosses gentle heather covered hills with views down to Builth Wells. The descent is through field and woodland to Trevaughan finishing back in the centre of Aberedw.
