Leaving Brecon we walk past the river Usk boating area and continue along a bridle way, often muddy, to Gaer Farm. Diverting through the farmyard we visit the footprint and remaining stonework of a former Roman cavalry fort. We continue along a quiet road and across fields to Aberbran with a pretty bridge over the river Bran. Crossing the busy A40 we gradually ascend the iron age hillfort of Twyn y Gaer. We descend along a quiet road and fields, cross the A470 and follow the Taff Trail along a road into Brecon. If it's open we stop at Llanfaes Dairy ice cream shop.
DIRECTIONS TO START
Take the A40 to Brecon and go straight into the town. At the first roundabout, straight on and, again, at the mini-roundabout. Then second left and at T junction left to the car park, opposite the theatre. (Pay and Display)
