Starting at Llanbedr church we drop down to the Grwyne Fechan and follow the pretty river downstream then gradually ascend the broad western ridge of Sugar Loaf where we find shelter, pause and admire the view. We descend north east to Forest Coal Pit and steadily climb to Crug Mawr passing a Baptist chapel and the atmospheric Patrishow church. On a good day the views up the Grwyne Fechan and across to Pen Cerrig-calch are a just reward for the climb. After Crug Mawr we follow part of the Beacons Way before descending steeply to Llanbedr.
DIRECTIONS TO START
From CRiC take the A40 towards Brecon. Just after the Shell petrol station turn right up Llanbedr Road, continue up the hill and leave Crickhowell. Merge with Great Oak Road and continue to follow the lane. Turn right after about 1 mile into the village of Llanbedr. The hall is on your right part way through the village.
There is a charge of £3/car to be paid in cash (only) by putting it in the honesty box (location to be confirmed). Please bring the correct change.
