From Llangynidr car park we take a back road to the canal; cross it at a lock bridge and gradually ascend through trees and meadows to the foot of Tor y Foel. Climbing steeply past several false tops we reach the top, catch our breath and admire the view. We descend a quiet road and fields to the canal which we follow past Llangynidr locks, taking a different route back to the car park.
DIRECTIONS TO START
Allow 30 mins from CRiC. From the front of CRiC take A40 towards Brecon and turn left opposite the Shell petrol station. Drive over Crickhowell’s river bridge and turn right following this road for 4 miles. As you enter Llangynidr, you will pass signs on the left for the Red Lion and then a bus shelter, also on the left. Turn immediately left into the car park which is opposite the village hall. No charge.
