The fascinating history of the Grwyne Fawr reservoir. Explore the remains of the village built nearly 100 years ago to house the builders of the dam, then to the dam itself and lunch in a MBA Bothy. The return will be via a high summit with great views. One rough uphill section but only of about 500m length.
DIRECTIONS TO START
Allow at least 50 minutes from CRiC. From the front of CRiC take A40 towards Abergavenny and turn immediately left after the Fire Station up Greenhill Way. Then right at mini-roundabout. Follow the road for 3½ miles until, on a right hand bend, you come to a sign for Llanthony along a very narrow lane. Turn left here (effectively straight on!) and continue, following the signs. At first T junction turn right and at “major” intersection (five ways) take first exit (signposted Grwyne Fawr Reservoir 7 miles). Continue along this narrow road for the 6 miles to the Mynydd Du car park on your right.
