Time: 10:00 to 15:00

Leader: Ros Grant
First, we cross below the shoulder of Bryn Arw to the board-walk at Coed-y-Cerrig National Nature Reserve, before ascending past The Pant and joining an old drovers’ route north below the ridge to Ty Mawr (the great house). We cross the valley passing a small Baptist chapel before walking up to Partrishow Church with its 11th century font, 15th century rood screen and where the legendary Gerald of Wales preached from the churchyard cross in 1188. Tracks and lanes take us back past Pont Esgob (the Bishop’s bridge) to the Fro car park. This walk has three short, sustained ascents from the valley floor.
DIRECTIONS TO START
Take the A40 to Abergavenny. Straight on at the first roundabout and then turn left opposite Tesco into Pen y Pound. Bear right at next traffic lights on the Old Hereford Road and follow this road for 2 miles until you see the Crown public house on your left. Immediately after the Crown fork left and the car park is about 3/4 mile on your left.
